You start from the beautiful harbour of Alykana.
Then you will be moving along side the tourist zone and in a few minutes you are in the region of Alykes.
Immediately after Alykes the scene is beginning to change.
You are in the little river area with its trquoise waters and the small tavern where you can stop and eat.
After little river you will meet the Lithari beach. Small beautiful beach with two distinguish rocks sticking out of the sea.
In that area you will find many small caves and also a nudist beach.
Leaving Lithari beach you arrive at Xygia beach. A beach with rare natural beauty.
Here is the homonym cave with a charactaristic smell coming from the sulphide source located here.
It is believed that swimming in xygia waters is therapeutic.
Now we are moving to Cape Kamylafka.
Right after it lays Makris Gialos (long beach) beach. Very impressive scenery with a pebble beach and crystal clear waters, small caves and a little taverna located just above all this.
Next up is Mikro Nisi (small island) and on the exact opposite side on the land you will find the old Venitian Watch tower and another taverna located in a very traditional greek atmosphere.
At Agios Nikolaos the deep clear waters of the small bay are ideal for swimming.
The port of the Gulf hosts small fishing boats and there also a small island right opposite that you can visit.
Right after Agios Nikolaos you are entering the region with the bigger caves.
First up is the Hirinospilia (piggs cave) then you get at the Peristerona (pigeon nest) and immediately after that the Papas cave (priests cave).
As you move on you are reaching the Aspros Vrahos (white rock) area with Cape Skinari being the nothern end of the island and that’s where the the famous Blue Caves are located. The deep blue color of the sea is what gave the name to the caves.
Remember that the area apart from its natural beauty is also famous for the frequent presence of Dolphines, Medeteranian Seal and octuposes (not giagantic thank god like the pirets of the carribean).
So DON’T FORGET YOUR CAMERA
Also drinking water would be essential.
I think this will be one of the best if not the best day of your holiday and fo certain one that you will never forget.
